  • What types of wildlife will I see?

    The Black Hills are home to a diversity of animals, including Elk, pronghorn, mule and white-tail deer. Black bears have been spotted from time to time, and the mountain lion population has steadily increased as a result of prolific herds of elk and deer. Mountain goats, bighorn sheep and coyotes are also commonly seen, along with bald eagles, ospreys, hawks, peregrine falcon and more than 200 other species of birds.
  • How is the weather in the Black Hills? When should I visit?

    Every season is a great time to visit the Black Hills. Spring temperatures average between 47 to 66 degrees, while summer temperatures fall between 76 and 85 degrees. During early fall, temperatures tend to stay well into the 70s, before falling into the high 40s in November. In the winter months, high temperatures tend to be in the mid-thirties with lows in the teens. During the coldest months of the year, the area can see over 25 inches of snow, making the area a prime destination for ski and snowmobile enthusiasts.
